Startup Places Pure Bet On Flash Memory
The company, Pure Storage, is one of many developing hardware that use the flash-memory chips that consumers know from devices like iPods and iPhones. The closely held company on Tuesday is announcing its plans along with an unspecified investment from the venture-capital arm of Samsung Electronics, the biggest flash-memory maker. “If you look at most customers, you don’t have to sell the benefits of flash–they want flash,” said Scott Dietzen, Pure’s chief executive. Pure says its storage systems can offer customers a ten-fold speedup over high-performance storage systems that use disks, while requiring one-tenth the power and space. As the review, the 20nm-class MLC NAND from Samsung also touts to proffer a productivity level of up to 50%, which exceeds 30nm-class MLC NAND. Besides, a 20nm-class-based, higher density, and 8GB SD card boasts of providing write performance up to 30% quicker than the 30nm-class NAND , plus, it also has the capacity of delivering a speed-class rating of 10 (write speed of 10MB/s and read speed of 20MB/s).
